REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED! If you're interested in joining us for this event contact LOUISE as we have a few standby places to offer. But be quick!

OSS Dart 10K hoodies

We thought that you might like a memento of the Dart10K 2010 and have adapted our standard hoodie to incorporate the event logo; they're fab, see attached.

The hoodies are available in army green, size S (21.4"), M (22.8"), L (24.4"), XL (26.12") (ladies note that the L is roughly a size 14) - size are quoted as the garment is lying flat.

Unfortunately the pre-order and pre-pay deadline to collect on the day has passed. But if you would like to purchase a hoodie please contact Louise. Hoodies are £31 and an additional £3.75 postage and packing, so £34.75 total.

Place orders by 13 September 2010. You will receive up to 10 days after the event.

You can hear water
cooped up in moss and moving
slowly uphill through lean-to trees
where every day the sun gets twisted and shut
with the weak sound of the wind
rubbing one indolent twig upon another...

For the rush

For the challenge

For the sheer joy

Be part of one of the most exciting challenges of the summer: a 10K swim down one of Britain's most beautiful rivers.

The OSS Dart 10K is being held on the Dart Estuary on Sunday 12 September at 09:00(AM), and is a rare chance to take part in a supported swim on this special river.

The River Dart rises on Dartmoor in Devon and winds it way over the moors down to the sea at Dartmouth. We will join it at Totnes, swimming 10K downstream to the small waterside village of Dittisham. It's a beautiful swim in brackish water. Swimmers will be flanked by rolling Devon hills the whole way, with an estuary's curious mix of sea and fresh water, bladder rack and oak leaves, oyster catchers and kingfishers.

The swim costs £76, which includes a training pack, swim hat, lunch and a hot drink at the Ferry Boat Inn at Dittisham, and transfers back to Totnes at the end of the day, between 3pm and 5pm. The OSS is a not for profit and any proceeds made will go back into the running of the society.

Wetsuits are compulsory, unless otherwise arranged with the events team (this is to avoid mass hypothermia: experienced cold water swimmers can swim without suits but experience must be demonstrated in order to ensure that the safety of all swimmers is not compromised). The advice of the Outdoor Swimming Society is clear use wetsuits over 10K at 14-17 degrees. No exceptions can be made on the day: if you don't have a wetsuit with you and haven't filled in the paperwork prior to the event and had it approved, for legal reasons you will not be able to swim.

All swimmers will receive an event hat which they must wear from the swim. The swim is for over 16s. We recommend that you should be able to swim a mile in 35-40 minutes or under to enter this event, either front crawl or breaststroke. The training booklet, developed in conjunction with Dan Bullock of Swimfortri, will aid your training for the event. If you are slower than this and would like to take part then please email us: we may be able to accomodate a slower group of swimmers in the safety plan if they reach sufficient numbers.

Registration is open and numbers are limited, so please book now to avoid disappointment. On receipt of payment we will forward your swim info pack and confirmation of your place. No refunds can be given.

Please contact Louise Crathorne for more information or for availability.
