Here are some answers to those questions you’ve been asking about this year’s iconic swim events.
What’s happening to the Bantham Swoosh, Dart 10K and Hurly Burly in 2022?
The Bantham Swoosh, Bantham Boomerang and Dart 10K will be going ahead this year. Bridge work in Barmouth, which unfortunately conflicts with the route of the Hurly Burly, means that the next Hurly Burly is scheduled for 16th September 2023, and there will not be a Hurly Burly in 2022.
This year’s dates are:
- Friday 15th July – Bantham Boomerang (pilot)
- Saturday 16th July – Bantham Swoosh (and mini Swoosh)
- Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September – Dart10k
Level Water is now managing these swims under its events arm Swim Collective. Level Water has been an events partner with The Outdoor Swimming Society (The OSS) since 2015 and are committed to delivering these much-loved swim events and ensuring they remain iconic for years to come.
The OSS will continue to support and be part of the events, but while in the past the events have been run by people within The OSS and supporting Level Water, they are now being run by Level Water and supported by The OSS. We will continue to receive some financial support from these events, and this income will ensure we can inform and inspire the swimming community here in the UK and around the world.
What does the charity Level Water do?
Level Water is a national charity providing one-to-one swimming lessons for children with disabilities.
Its goal is to kickstart a love of swimming in children with disabilities. The charity works at 90 pools around the country, teaching up to 20,000 bespoke one-to-one swimming lessons each year.
They started partnering with the Swoosh and Dart10k in 2015, and became The OSS’ official charity in 2017. Most of their fundraising is achieved via these events, and with our support, many children with disabilities have learnt to swim.
Level Water and The OSS share a belief that water should be open to all, and that everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim and fall in love with the water. This has been the bedrock of our events partnership in the past, and will be in the future.
What is Swim Collective?
Swim Collective is the Dart 10k, Bantham Swoosh, Bantham Boomerang and Hurly Burly, which are now Level Water’s collection of iconic events. Swim Collective events will help fundraise for swimming activities for children with disabilities, while also helping support The OSS. All profits from Swim Collective events are donated to the Level Water charity.
We know that Level Water’s Swim Collective will closely guard the ethos of these amazing events that we formed together; events that helped everyone connect to themselves, their environment, and to each other.
How will I hear about tickets?
Level Water’s events arm, Swim Collective, will email you in the next week to let you know about ticket arrangements for 2022. The OSS will also remind you about the events at least once a year by email, and also on Social Media.
Keep subscribed to the Swim Collective if you want to hear more – anyone on the database will only receive four emails a year on swim events. If you are a member of The OSS and do not want to hear from the Swim Collective please unsubscribe from their emails.
Swim Collective will continue to provide places for both charity fundraising and general non-fundraising swimmers.
Separately, you will continue to receive our ejournal elsewhere and emails from The OSS (unless you unsubscribe from them).
For questions about swim events for 2022 – such as event ticket information, volunteering details, merchandise and event arrangements – please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why is The OSS no longer delivering these events?
We are a small team here at The OSS HQ. With a two year absence of event management our in-house events team has moved on, meanwhile the swimming community has doubled in size. After some reflection, we have made a confident yet difficult decision to transfer the events to Level Water’s Swim Collective so we can focus on delivering inspiring content to the international outdoor swimming community.
Swim Collective will continue to run these events as they have been before, delivering some of the most iconic swims in the swimming calendar.
Many of The OSS team are looking forward to swimming at these events this year. We will have a stand at the events, will be sharing the swim love and would love to have a chat with this year’s event participants – so please do come and say hello.
Am I still a member of The OSS?
Yes, you will receive our flagship ejournal elsewhere every month, have access to our experts via our website and have full access to our swim community on social media. Our membership is free and we want to keep it that way.
I’m a long time volunteer for OSS events, how can I get involved again?
Go to the Swim Collective website to find out about this year’s volunteer opportunities – we will also continue to announce ticket launches in our ejournal elsewhere.
I volunteered for OSS events in 2019, do I have a place in a 2022 event?
Swim Collective is honouring event place discounts for all those who volunteered at OSS events in 2019. Volunteer event places are not transferable in advance or once a ticket has been applied for.
Who can I contact about the swim event changes?
Swim Collective is managing these events and all enquiries should go to: email@example.com.
You can go straight to Swim Collective for information on ticket release dates, event ticket ballots, volunteering for these events and event arrangements.
Please follow @SwimCollectiveUK on Instagram.
You will also be able to connect with Swim Collective through the events section of The OSS website.
