Swoosh places – fundraise for Brain Tumour Research

23rd March, 2017

It has been an exciting week for the OSS with the Bantham Swoosh tickets selling out on Tuesday and Dart 10k tickets selling out quickly as this is typed. But there are still tickets available if you would like to take a charity spot.

This year we have partnered for the first time with the charity, Brain Tumour Research, with the aim to raise funds for the brain tumour research unit at Plymouth University.

In 2016, the OSS team and the world lost a vibrant member of the swimming community to brain cancer. Lynne Roper was a key contributor to the Outdoor Swimming Society over many years, a much-loved member and dear friend to many swimmers who volunteer and swim at OSS events.

Lynne was often found in the warming up tent at OSS events and it seems fitting that we can offer swimmers places to raise money for much needed research into brain cancer. The charity’s vision is to find a cure for brain tumours and their mission is to build a network of experts in sustainable brain tumour research.

There are ten dawn and ten dusk tickets for the Bantham Swoosh event and you could take one of the spots by pledging to raise a minimum of £300 in sponsorship.

To apply email: peter@braintumourresearch.org

OSS are also proud to Partner with:

Aveton Gifford community outdoor pool is a beneficiary of the swim. It’s an open air pool in the village where the swim starts. It’s attached to the school, and used for primary school swim lessons as well as open for village use. It’s a wonderful facility that now needs to be self-supporting and we are delighted to be supporting it. There will be charity swim places available for swimmers willing to fundraise for the pool – please email the event manager if you think you can help at events@outdoorswimmingsociety.com

Level Water provides free one-to-one swimming lessons for children with disabilities. Without their one-to-one swimming lessons, most of these children will never learn to swim. Level Water have a limited number of entries available for the Bantham Swoosh with a fundraising commitment. Please contact Colette at Level Water for more information.

FRANK Water have a number of discounted charity places available for people wishing to go that one step further and fundraise for charity. The money that you raise will help ensure they can continue the life changing work they do to bring safe clean water and sanitation to remote communities in India.
