New for 2018 – the OSS Nomad programme, a range of courses that will provide the essential (but elusive) knowledge and understanding to further your wild swims. Developed by training expert Jim Whittaker, these courses are designed for swimmers looking to build knowledge, confidence and develop ability to plan a swim with friends somewhere new. First up is the Basic course, that give an overview of all the elements of planning a swim in a new location. Future courses will focus in on a more advanced understanding of coastal and inland water, the cold, and adventure swims.

ABOUT THE NOMAD PROGRAMME

We felt it was time for a course for swimmers wanting to plan more of their own wild swims.  Maybe you want to take your first wild swim. Maybe you’re looking to plan ‘slightly wilder than before’ swims.  Maybe you’re an event swimmer who wants greater capacity to swim independently. Perhaps you’re swimming at your local spot and want to go further afield.  Maybe you feel the tug of salty water or want to leave the pool but don’t have the confidence. You want to use the Wild Swim map, you want to go somewhere new with friends, you want to explore.

OSS Nomad Courses are designed for swimmers of all different levels, swimming abilities and outdoor experience. They’re aimed at increasing understanding of different bodies of water (river, lake, sea and estuary), the environments and weathers swimmers find themselves in, and the process you undertake to establish whether to swim (or not) and how.

OSS NOMAD: BASIC COURSE

This 1 day course provides the essential (but elusive) knowledge and understanding to take the next step towards wild swims.

It takes you through the process of planning a new swim for yourself and friends. It’s not a leadership course, or a coaching qualification – it’s a knowledge-acquiring, confidence building learning experience enabling you to go further and realise your next swim adventure.

COURSE CONTENT

You’ll cover essential basics for inland and coastal swims.
