Splash Palace – a new documentary about the renaissance of lidos

04th October, 2019

The Ponds co-producer/director Patrick McLennan has announced a new aquatic documentary project, this time based around the renaissance of the classic British lido.

Splash Palace is currently planned to be a feature-length documentary about how Britain fell back in love with the lido. It will focus primarily on the community-led campaigns that have restored (and continue to restore) our outdoor pools.

“The success of The Ponds demonstrated how much of an appetite there is for outdoor swimming and stories about our passion,” said Patrick. “It got me thinking about other films that might feed this need and Splash Palace emerged from a conversation I had, appropriately, by the side of a pool.

“There is a quiet revolution going on as swimmers reclaim their lost and struggling lidos and I want to capture the stories behind them and show how communities are getting together to protect their heritage and save some amazing pools.”

Splash Palace is in the development phase and Patrick intends to begin filming in spring 2020. If you have a story about a campaign or pool personality or just an interesting lido tale, contact him at splashpalace@outlook.com.
