#whilewewaitcomp

Capture the water you wish you were in, in this week's photo competition from @theoutdoorswimmingsociety

The first May Bank Holiday marks the start of the adventure season for many of us – so however you are quenching that longing during lockdown, share it in this weeks #whilewewaitcomp from The Outdoor Swimming Society

It’s the start of May. The Bank Holiday weekend marks the start of the adventure season for many of us, but not this year. Instead, our thoughts are resting on expanses or pockets of nature that have become stand-in loves while our kit bags wait.

What’s doing it for you? Sketching or painting seascapes? Plotting a future adventure on a map? Taking photos of your usual swimming spot? Or developing a new-found appreciation for a local unswimmable body of water or humble pocket of nature you previously walked past?

We want to see whatever it is that’s keeping you going while we wait, so all this week till Monday 11th May @theoutdoorswimmingsociety are running a #whilewewaitcomp for photo/art shared on Instagram and Facebook.

We are looking for the best images that capture the beauty of the nearest-available nature, and the water we wish we were in – with prizes for the best illustration and best photograph.  So however you are quenching that longing, please share with the rest of The OSS community.

To enter:
  • #whilewewaitcomp #outdoorswimmingsociety – we anticipate most entries will be via Instagram (find us at @theoutdoorswimmingsociety) but we will also surface these on Facebook.
  • Entries must be new images and illustrations – not from the archives.
  • This is all about enjoying the now more than winning – trying new things, finding what we need on our doorsteps.

What counts? Other than the criteria above, this is a broad field and can include anything….

  • the water you wish you were in
  • taking your mind out for an adventure – hand drawn maps, flatlays of kit, nature mandalas, illustrations, fieldnotes from previous swims
  • unoccupied water
  • sky (we all have sky! and it’s a full moon this week)
  • back garden fires and home camping
  • nature – big and small
  • people – if you’re with any

The judges are looking for images and an illustration with quietness and beauty – things that are your own, and bring peace or quench our longing for water, nature and escape in a time of lockdown.

PRIZES:

The winning illustration and photograph will both receive prizes from Alpkit and The Outdoor Swimming Society.

Competition closes midnight, Thursday 14th May.

Stay home, stay safe – and we look forward to sharing your adventures.
